Mikhail Mihhaylovich Zoshchenko (1895-1958)
"I translated most of Zoshchenko's short stories into Turkish; I admire his mastery. It had been good that Zoshchenko was published at a time when the bourgeois Turkish press set up the howl that 'in the Soviet Union people forgot to laugh and that humorist literature is dead'. I think ten thousands of Turkish readers, by reading Zoshchenko's bitter but deep and never pessimistic stories, came to like the Soviet Union."
